Matthew Elliott
Moppa Elliott is a bassist, composer, and educator in Queens, NY. He studied with Peter Dominguez at the Oberlin Conservatory and apprenticed in Cleveland with Greg Bandy, Ernie Krivda, and many others. After moving to New York in 2002, he founded "Mostly Other People Do the Killing" his long-running jazz ensemble and the record label, Hot Cup Records. He has recorded and produced dozens of albums over the past two decades, most recently "Disasters Vol. 1 and 2" featuring compositions about historical disasters in his native Pennsylvania.
Ever since his childhood, spent in a musical household with his brother and fellow WAYO DJ, Greg Elliott, Moppa Elliott's favorite bass player was the great Sam Jones. Over the last few years, and especially during the pandemic, he collected all of Sam Jones' available recordings and is excited to share this collection music with WAYO listeners on the occasion of his Sam Jones' 100th birthday.
